Site Setup

A good machine starts with a good floor plan. We prepare your production area for safe movement, clean handling, stable power and practical daily output.

What Site Setup Covers Before The Machine Arrives

Site setup is the work that happens before the first bottle goes through the printer. We look at the room, the route in, the position of the machine, and the flow of people, stock and finished goods. That means your line is ready for production from day one instead of being arranged around a machine after it has already arrived.

For cylindrical screen printing, the setup must suit the product size, the loading side, the drying or curing method, and the amount of space needed for screens, inks and cleaning materials. In Aeroton, Midrand, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town we often find that a small change in layout saves time on every shift. It also reduces handling damage, which matters when you are printing on bottles, cups or tubes with tight tolerances.

  • Production area assessment and layout advice
  • Machine position marking and workflow planning
  • Operator movement, stock flow and packing zone planning
  • Utility checks for power, air and ventilation
  • Safety spacing for access, cleaning and maintenance

Floor Space, Power And Utility Checks

We confirm the floor space needed for the machine, operator access and safe unloading of product. A compact cylindrical printer may only need a modest footprint, but you still need clearance for loading, screen changes and maintenance. If the line is too tight, your team ends up working sideways and the machine does not get used properly.

Utility checks are part of the setup too. We inspect power supply, plug points, cable runs and backup plans for load-shedding. In many plants a stable supply with surge protection and a sensible changeover plan is not optional. We also look at compressed air where applicable, as well as lighting, ventilation and general cleanliness. Coastal humidity can affect drying times and screen storage, so we factor that in when planning the room.

  • Space check for machine, pallet movement and operators
  • Power point positioning and load planning
  • Air supply and pressure requirements where needed
  • Ventilation and ink room conditions
  • Lighting and visibility for registration and quality checks

How We Set Up A Safer Production Flow

A production area should be simple to work in. Our setup process creates a clear path from incoming stock to printing, drying, inspection and packing. We help position work tables, screen storage, consumables and cleaning points so staff are not crossing one another or carrying product through busy zones.

We also consider municipal and site safety rules when planning access and movement. That includes keeping walkways clear, separating wet cleaning areas from electrical equipment, and placing fire gear where it can actually be reached. If your product is glass or plastic bottles, we look at breakage risk and how to reduce it. If you are running cups or tubes, we plan for smaller handling areas and quick changeovers.

The result is a line that feels practical, not cramped. Staff can see what is happening, fault finding becomes easier and production can keep moving when volumes increase.

Setup Steps From Assessment To Handover

We follow a clear process so nothing is left to guesswork. Before the visit we gather basic information on the machine model, product type, room size and site conditions. On site, we confirm the layout, check utilities and agree the final machine position with the team that will use it.

Once the area is ready, we assist with machine positioning, levelling, access spacing and service clearance. If screen making or reclaiming is part of your operation, we plan a nearby work zone so screens can move in and out without clutter. We then run through the first production steps with your team and make sure the layout supports the way you actually work, not how a drawing looks on paper.

  • Pre-visit information gathering
  • On-site assessment and layout confirmation
  • Utility and safety review
  • Machine position and workflow finalisation
  • Handover with practical production guidance

Turnaround Times For Setup And Readiness

Turnaround depends on the size of the area and whether the room needs minor changes or a full rework. A straightforward setup with existing power and enough floor space can often be completed quickly. Larger sites, or rooms that need electrical changes, storage planning or workflow changes, take longer and need proper coordination with your maintenance or building team.

For clients in Johannesburg South, Pretoria and Midrand we usually work fast where access is easy and utilities are already in place. For installations further out, or where production is still running during the setup, we plan around shutdown windows so you do not lose unnecessary time. If there is a tight commissioning date, we will tell you early what is realistic and what needs to happen first.

We do not rush the planning. A half-day spent setting the room up properly can save you several days of stoppages later.

Pricing Approach And Maintenance Intervals

Pricing is based on the site size, the scope of work, travel, and whether you need layout guidance only or a full production area setup with machine positioning and team handover. We quote after assessing the site, because no two production areas are exactly alike. A small bottle line in Aeroton will not need the same work as a busy site in Durban with humidity, sea air and bigger stock volumes.

For maintenance planning, we recommend that the setup is reviewed again after the first few weeks of production. That first interval shows where operators are standing, where consumables are being kept, and whether the flow needs small changes. After that, many clients benefit from a quarterly check of power, movement paths, screen storage, cleaning areas and general wear. If your site runs long shifts or has frequent product changeovers, more regular reviews may be worth it.

We can also assist with preventive maintenance planning so the site stays workable over time, not just on installation day.

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Do you only do site setup when you supply the machine?

We can assess and prepare the production area for a new machine, whether the project is in Aeroton, another Johannesburg site or further afield. The work is focused on readiness, safety and flow.

What do you need from us before the visit?

Send the product type, machine details if available, room measurements, power information and any site restrictions. Photos of the area help a lot and save time on arrival.

Can you help if the room needs small changes before installation?

Yes. We can identify what needs attention first, then guide the order of work so the site is ready for machine arrival and the team can start production with fewer delays.
